Friday Evening Posts

We've all heard of the Saturday Evevning Post?
Well this my version of the "Friday Evening Post", and I must admit mine isn't all that wonderful!
I shall do my best in keeping you posted( pardon the pun); our weather here in Grass Pants, Or has finally cooled down to a "bearable" temperature. Today we evened out at a whopping 96 degrees and to walk across the parking lots downtown did not render "melted shoes"!!
* * *
I do recall a friend of mine once stating while living in Phoenix, Az
that in the summer time one should be required to wear "asbestos" shoes!
The temperatures there could fry an egg on the sidewalk
at 4:00 in the afternoon!
I actually tried it once, frying the egg on the sidewalk;
but I didn't have the ambition to eat it afterwards!
* * *
The air conditioner at my place of business decided this past week
to die a "miserable" death.
The owner of the establishment called on a repair man early last week,
he finally showed up at 5:00 pm only to tell us that
the unit was ancient( we knew that); and it needed serviced
and to be recharged!
Listen to this one: he would send us a "service" bill!!
We walked in today and finally felt the cool air cascading
down upon us!
Dag nabbit too;
I was all prepared to wear one of those neckerchief's
around my neck to keep cool.
Ya'll know the ones: you see them at the county fairs
they try to sell you for an arm, leg and your first born child?
Well, mine didn't cost me a first born child,
but it was all ready to go around my neck;
and I didn't even get to use it.....phooey!
* * *
Speaking of County Fairs.
Ours is about "pathetic" this year!
We have only two music acts and they aren't much worth
paying for "parking" - $5.00
entrance admission - $8.00
sweating - in the hot sun to get the "good seats"
RIDICULOUS!!!!
We have the wonderful
Roy Clark and I'm dating myself
when I say he was the better part of
Hee Haw!
Then we have Kristy Lee Cook;
she's a local who made it fairly far on
American Idol; thanks to millions of people
in Southern Oregon who can afford
to run up their cell phone bill
"voting" for her with umpteen million texts.
Sorry, I didn't vote for her.
I don't even watch American Idol;
not that I don't like it but I have enough drama
in the shop where I work!
Why would I do that to myself?
To me, that's like breaking back in to Alcatraz!!!!

This concludes my edition of "Friday Evening Posts",
stay tuned for more exciting news next Friday!
Until then, God Bless you
and have a wonderful weekend with your
family and friends!!

Just some pretty pictures.

I went out to my folks house to snap a few pictures! So I found my camera, and my dad's beautiful zinnia's with a butterfly I must have chased around for a good 15 minutes!!
After that little expedition, I looked up to see our American flag fluttering in the breeze and snapped a picture. All the colors that day were so brilliant!

So then, I looked over the railing and found my mom's hydrangea bush I gave her for Mother's day at least 9 years ago, still as blue as the day I gave her the pot.

I just felt like being snap-happy that day! Hope you enjoy the colors!

Hot Summer Days....Oh My!!

Oh how I would love to be here as the temperatures climb into the high 90's this week!!

I would even put up with the weird looking seaweed on the beach, the fog early in the morning and even the wind(hopefully there's none?) I think, no I would, even take my shoes off and deal with sand between my toes to just keep cool until the weather inland becomes more bearable. Now where did I put my sunscreen, hat and iced tea????

Surviving the Heat Wave

We have been enduring a heat wave these last few days!! On Wednesday it got above 103 and yesterday a whopping 108 for the 4th of July!! I'm pretty sure it broke all kinds of records?! In the meantime, I managed to squeeze in at least one patriotic photo just for this weekend. I took this outside of the Butte Creek Mill last year while it was extremely smokin hot!! I was lucky enough to find a very cold 50/50 ice cream bar and be able to sit down in the shade and dangle my feet like a little kid would do were she with her grand-papa. I have fond memories of my grandpa and me from when I was very little. Someday, when I find a scanner I'll post my photos of the two of us. Until then......have a great rest of the weekend.

Secrets from the Pantry

On my last post I mentioned "secrets from the pantry"; so I thought I'd post a few "secrets"!
Most of us who grew up with a Grammy from the late 30's or 40's knew she had several secrets for laundry, hair and skin care and they all came from the pantry!!
Lots of folks don't know that your home remedies are simple things and you already have them and don't know it?!
For dry cuticles around the nail beds: soak your hands in white vinegar about 3-5 minutes; it's a natural pH balancer and rinse well and follow with a good moisturizer afterwards.
For nails that are a bit dingy or yellow: use half of a grapefruit and stick your nails in the uneaten pulp; follow up with a scrubby nail brush and a bit of dishsoap.
Really dry cracked heels: use a pumice in the shower, and follow with some olive oil afterwards and if you can stand it; sleep with a light pair of cotton socks overnight. It may take a few treatments but it does work.
My favorite hair care items: hairspray buildup or product buildup; use shampoo and Baking Soda! A tablespoon of baking soda with your shampoo mixed in leave on the hair about 3-5 minutes and rinse well. Follow with a good conditioner. * note that the shampoo will not lather but it will take the gunk off of the strands of hair, leaving it soft and silky!
Want shiny hair: after shampooing rinse with white vinegar use 1/2 a cup poured over the hair and rinse with cool water, another pH balancer it closes the cuticle down and seals in moisture. It also protects hair color by locking it in to the cuticle to protect against fading.
Don't forget that Baking Soda can be used with your laundry detergent to aid in better stain removal, fresher smelling fabrics and without hurting the fibers.
Last but not least; if you color your hair at home and it comes out too dark? You can mix a tablespoon of baking soda with lemon juice and some vinegar and rinse it through the hair on the same day of coloring and it'll help lighten the shade.
