To Hatch or Not to Hatch?

Years ago, I used to house sit for a lady who had numerous critters!
The idea of keeping those critters happy....was a chore in itself. To make matters hilarious, as thought it weren't already...was the onset of Spring! Now we all now that when hens and roosters are left to "free range" nature will take over all by itself!
I met with the lady who I house sat for and went over any new changes in any critters diet, sleeping habits, etc. She told me to dispose of any chickens eggs I should come across; as her chicken population had doubled since last Spring and not feel guilty getting rid of the eggs.
I said it wouldn't be a problem and wished her easy and safe travels. A few days later, I found 7 eggs that had been laid; I have always been a "sucker" for baby aminals. So at first I threw the eggs out into the woods.....a ghastly idea....I could of at least fried them up....but I don't like eating anything that shoots out of a chickens ass!!!
So I decided to overlook the eggs and finding them. My daughter had other ideas, since she was about 4 at the time; she felt we should keep the eggs we found. Bad idea....cause I ended up taking home 25 eggs!!! What to do with them??? My dad wanted to put them in the fridge and have fresh eggs for breakfast.....it could have worked had they not been fertilized!!!!

Okay, plan #2; we would build a homemade incubator aka a fake chicken momma. So my dad and I put these eggs in a box, hooked up a UV plant growing light...it was the thought that counts....right about them we sprayed the eggs lightly with water....we really didn't know what in the world we were doing but it was better than using them for a breakfast fritata!!
Every day we rolled them around.....this got to be really tiresome....so my mom started "candleing" them.....hold those babies up to the light see if something moves.
She cracked a few, they smelled rotten....my dad hurked a bit......he really isn't one for dirty diapers either......after about 10 eggs mom figured might as well crack a few more.....and she did end up cracking all but one!
About this time, I was thinking we'd have a yard full of baby chicks running around! She managed to do the cracking while I was at work; so that I'd never know....you notice when the basket is getting empty???

The last one....got cracked a few days later......it would have hatched normally.....if mom hadn't gave it a premature cracking! I was going to name him after I had imprinted my self upon him!!!! Of course, my mom had another idea; we'll never know what that idea was.....because she can't even remember the details.
But the idea of having those little babies running around the yard....pecking on my dad's two stock dogs paws.....and watching my Aussie trying to herd them into his doghouse to keep them safe from the wildlife would have been hilarious!!!

New Beginnings?

Happy shiney people walking around and feeling nervous!!
I decided to branch out and offer more of myself other than being "just a hairdresser" the rest of my life. Did I tell you I've been a hairstylist for over 22 years?! I'm not burned out.........yet; but I also try to find innovative ideas to keep me from going there! I knit in my past times to keep my hands busy; I'm so dedicated to my knitting that I don't even bother to open my Bible during church services.....I simply listen along. I've had wonderful conversations with the Lord about my knitting in church; He doesn't seem to mind. If I don't knit in church then I doodle on a note pad....they're not pretty doodlings. I honestly can't draw to save my life.....that's why my artwork is done mainly in haircolor and perms.
So what was my theory anyway you ask??
Today I walked out on a limb and turned in an application at Senior Services for disabled persons; I submitted my personal information to become a Home Care Worker(certified). I decided that if I truly wanted a compassionate job to really enjoy and I enjoy helping people, no matter their age, I thought this would be a great path to follow. My two sisters in law both are care givers; one works in a retirement center the other cares for an elderly man in his home. At one time, they both cared for my hubby's late grandfather; it was very stressful doing the 24hr in home care....so I decided to become an hourly home care worker. Why you ask? Well two reasons really: Firstly, I want to still be able to continue my hairstyling business; and Secondly, I'm looking for part time work so there isn't a chance of getting burned out too fast. That my friends is the most scariest occurance in any job: being burned out is a terrible blow to one's ego.....and it really INHALES a lot ( my version of sucks)!!!
So I have put in my application, waiting to have a criminal background check, and hoping some really awesome elderly man or woman would like the company of my opptimistic outlook in life?! I will keep you posted; wish me good luck!
